I tend to fall victim to this at work on Mondays. Feeling full of purpose and drive, fresh from the weekend, I usually end up staying late, trying to clear as much possible, and end up feeling so tired I spend the rest of the week playing catch up, but never quite getting there. Recover on the weekend, and then it starts all over again.
Same with travelling. Sometimes I come home so exhausted I become ill and need days to rest before I can go back to work.
The idea of consciously holding back resonates with me, because I think while pushing yourself to achieve, whether it's at work or what you get up to in the evenings, on weekends or on holidays, there's a lot to be said for leaving yourself wanting more.
It means we can enjoy the less that we did achieve, with a greater sense of perspective. And hungry for what you can achieve tomorrow. Here's to Tuesdays.
