Today, I think if you asked a lot of people, your would find their third place is online. Whether it's boring old Facebook, established Instagram or new-ish Snapchat (new for its latest uses for the blogging community, in any case) online is the most dominant space for people after home (the first place) and work or school (the second place).
However, what I've enjoyed seeing in London in the past few years with the rise of the coffee culture is that these places that provide amazing flat whites have become fantastic third places. As London became health-conscious, bike-crazy and marathon-tastic, pubs and bars seemed to drop off the radar as places to meet, and cafes and creatives hubs naturally took their place.
My current favourite spot for coffee provides everything a third place should by definition: it's free to be in, provides food + drink, it's accessible, involves regulars and newcomers, it's welcoming and comfortable, it's neutral ground and a great leveller.
I love that there are places like this all over London now.
Where's your third place?
